10 Ways to Create a Positive Learning Environment in your Social Studies Classroom

In SS 350 we began class with a partner activity. We were given instruction from the whiteboard to partner up with someone and construct an outline for a blog post titled, " 10 Ways to Create a Positive Learning Environment in your Social Studies Classroom".

I partnered up with Leah, and we created a list of 10 ideas. After completing our list, each group when the time was up gave what they deemed the number one important way on their list. As a class, we created a top 10 list. Creating a list that the whole class was able to contribute to was a way for us to see how we can incorporate partner work and turn that into a whole class effort. I really enjoyed how the activity brought us together as a class, and how we bounced off of each other's ideas. Creative collaboration is how I like to think about it.

Our professor was quite proud of the list our class created and relayed to us the purpose of this activity. The purpose of this was to prime us for our practicum and how we can incorporate these practices into our own lessons. During the first half of practicum instead of sitting there and observing, there is so much more that we should be thinking about than just the classroom objectives. One example can be thinking about the positive learning environment that has or hasn't been created and ways in which we can improve that or change things in our own classrooms.

Below contains the list Leah and I created while brainstorming, the class composed a list, as well as a list of 10 ways to create a positive learning environment in your social studies classroom from a blog our professor showed us. I will also be providing the link to that below.
