Week 3 Check-in Reflection
Week three is in the bag and what a week it has been. Overall, this week has been super busy, yet I am finally adjusting and getting into the routine of things. After the micro-teaching yesterday in class, I can see some other ideas being added to my TO-DO checklist. I can see how class content and my SMART goals that I set for myself will be put to work in the classroom starting Monday. The micro-teaching lesson helped me quite a bit feel more equipped with how to interact properly with a student exhibiting a behavior. In class I saw how important it is for educators to take the 90 seconds before engaging with the students behavior, or even sometimes giving them choice the first time, and then handling it differently if the behavior continues.
My TO-DO list of items that I would like to try and accomplish during this field rotation include:
- Talk with a Special Education teacher and learn more about their role as an educator.
- Visit other Social Studies teachers, either in the grade I am working with, or in the grades above and see their different teaching styles.
- Connect with the students by attending an extracurricular activity or a sports game they are involved in.
- Discuss with my mentor teacher how they arrange their lesson plans to meet the needs of all students.
- keep a journal that I reflect in each day so I can also see how I am growing in confidence, related to my SMART goal.
- Make meaningful connections and bonds with students.
- Talk with a member of the administration.
Those 90 seconds can be quite powerful and are useful both inside and outside of the classroom!
