Week 14 Check- in Reflection

Since it is the week of Thanksgiving Break, students only went to school Monday and Tuesday and Tuesday was an early release day. These two days were my last two days teaching my 3-5 day lesson plan. Monday in-class students were not given a Bell Ringer to work on, instead, we jumped right into note-taking and the lecture for the day. It is the last day to cover content before students work on their summative assessment the next day. Students were learning about the foundations of Democracy in Ancient Greece, specifically in Athens. Students learned about the founders and influential figures that allowed Democracy to flourish in Ancient Greece and into the modern world. Students also learned about the similarities and differences between Democracy in Athens and in the U.S.  Students during the lecture, were broken up and were asked to create a Venn Diagram as a self-assessment of their learning and ability to pull similarities and differences together.
On Tuesday, students had the full period to work on their final assessment. The final assessment was shortened from what it was originally supposed to be because students only had 30 minutes since there was an early release. Students were asked to create a timeline, which allowed students to use prior knowledge of creating timelines and incorporate that into the unit. Students were asked to create an event space over each government type we learned about. They were supposed to add what each government type was and explain it, along with a date and a person that was important during each reign. Students lastly had to add at least one drawing as a visual aid.
After students completed that, they were asked to write a quick 3-5 sentence summary comparing and contrasting Democracy in Athens and in the U.S.

Overall, these past two days went okay, Tuesday it was a little rough to keep students focused and working since it was the day before break. Students enjoyed the final assessment and were able to complete the summarization with little help.
